Shajapur, A woman had reached Shajapur after covering a distance of about 1600 km from West Bengal. When she came here, she worked as a teacher. During this time he had never even thought that the reins of the assembly would come into his hands. That too not once but twice. Once, after completing the tenure of 5 years, when he took over the reins of the Assembly for the second time, he held his post for more than two years, but later he died due to illness.
Before India became independent, Tarajyoti Sharma, who received an honorary degree and worked in the court of West Bengal, later left this job and took up the job of a teacher. In independent India, he was posted directly from West Bengal to the Government Maharani Lakshmibai Kanya Vidyalaya located at Shajapur district headquarters. While working here, in 1949, she got married to Prabhag Chand Sharma, a prominent Congress leader from Shajapur. The husband was actively engaged in Congress politics and Tarajyoti Sharma was working in a school. In 1967, Congress fielded Prabhagchand Sharma as a candidate from Shajapur Assembly, but Sharma was defeated in the elections by his son-in-law Rameshchand Dubey. After this, Prabhag Chand Sharma went around the entire assembly and continuously made contact with the people and strengthened the Congress. Everyone expected that Prabhagchand Sharma would definitely get Vijayashree in the next assembly elections, but after working actively in the assembly for about 4 years, Prabhagchand Sharma died in 1971. In such a situation, in 1972, it was decided to field his wife Tarajyoti Sharma in his place. Sharma's nomination form was filed and he also got Vijayashree in the election.
Got a chance again due to his candid and principled image
After becoming MLA in 1972, Tarajyoti Sharma made strong contacts with the people in the assembly constituency and got many development works done. It was during his reign that the foundation stone for the construction of Gandhi Hall was laid in 1976. Due to her outspokenness and principled image, Congress again gave her ticket from Shajapur Assembly in 1980 and she again became an MLA. However, after completing his tenure of more than two years, he died in 1983 due to illness.
The CM wanted to be included in the cabinet so she went to her sister's house
The then Chief Minister Prakashchandra Sethi wanted to include Tarajyoti Sharma in the cabinet. In such a situation, he was called to Bhopal, the next day he had a meeting with the Chief Minister at 2 pm. In which preparations were completed to make him a cabinet minister. Sharma did not want to join the cabinet. Due to this, she went to her sister's house in Bhopal at 1 pm.
Sharma used to wear khadi saree all her life
Tarajyoti Sharma continued to wear Khadi sarees throughout her life. He never adopted any other style of clothing. At that time, there used to be two factions in Congress led by Pt. Dwarka Prasad Mishra and Prakashchand Sethi. Prabhag Chand Sharma was close to both these leaders. In such a situation, both the groups tried to win him over to their side. After his death, the then Chief Minister Sethi had also decided to include Tarajyoti Sharma in the cabinet for the same reason, which Tarajyoti Sharma had rejected. After her demise, there has never been any woman leader MLA in Shajapur Assembly.
