Russia again wreaked havoc in Ukraine with missile attack
17 people died tragically in Chernihiv, 61 injured
Kyiv. Three missiles fired by Russia fell on an eight-storey building in Chernihiv, northern Ukraine on Wednesday. In which 17 people died. The officers provided this information. Ukraine's emergency service said at least 61 people, including three children, were injured in the attack. Chernihiv is located about 150 kilometers north of Ukraine's capital Kiev, near the border of Russia and Belarus and has a population of about 2.5 million.
Russia continues to make gains in Ukraine as the war enters its third year. Due to Western countries not providing additional military equipment to Ukraine, its position in the war against Russia is weakening. However, during the winter months, Russia was unable to make any progress on the war front. Meanwhile, Czech Republic Prime Minister Petr Fiala said his government has arranged for 5,00,000 artillery shells to be delivered to Ukraine from countries outside the European Union (EU). The arms are to be supplied in June.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has requested Western countries to provide more air defense systems to his country. Regarding the Chernihiv attack, he said that if Ukraine had received adequate air defense equipment and the world had been determined to counter Russian terrorism, this would not have happened. Zelensky told PBS in an interview broadcast earlier this week that Ukraine had run out of air defense missiles to defend against missile and drone attacks. Recently, Russia destroyed one of Ukraine's largest power plants in an attack.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba reiterated Zelensky's appeal for more help ahead of a meeting of the seven countries' foreign ministers in Italy. Kuleba said that we need at least seven more Patriot batteries (missile systems) to protect our cities and economic centers from destruction. What's the problem with this?
An oddity for Ukraine is the stalling of approval in Washington of an aid package that includes about US$60 billion for Ukraine. Speaker of the US House of Representatives Mike Johnson said on Sunday that he would try to advance the package this week. According to the Washington-based think tank 'Institute for the Study of War' (ISW), there is a rapid shortage of military equipment in Ukraine.
ISW said in a report on Tuesday that Russia is rapidly gaining ground due to delays in the provision of US military aid to Ukraine. The report said that without American aid, Ukraine cannot last long on the battlefield. ISW said that Ukraine needs air defense systems and artillery most now. Russia's Defense Ministry said a Ukrainian drone was shot down in the Tatarstan region early Wednesday. A Ukrainian drone was also shot down in the Mordovia region, about 350 kilometers east of Moscow, the ministry said. This place is 700 kilometers away from the border of Ukraine.
About an hour before the Mordovia attack, Russia's civil aviation authority halted flights at airports in Nizhny Novgorod, the country's two largest cities, and Kazan, Tatarstan, over security concerns. Some unconfirmed reports say that a Ukrainian missile attacked an airfield in occupied Crimea. Russian and Ukrainian officials did not confirm the attack, but local authorities temporarily closed the road where the airfield is located.
