In view of the assembly elections to be held on February 5 in the country's capital Delhi, it has been announced that a ban will be imposed on the sale of liquor in bars on fixed dates. Not only the sale of liquor at wine shops, but serving liquor in bars, restaurants and hotels has also been banned on these dates. The dates which have been declared as dry days include the ban on the sale and serving of liquor from February 3 to 5, the polling day, and till the declaration of results on February 8. The state government announced this on Tuesday due to the assembly elections in Delhi. Political parties have also geared up for the assembly elections in Delhi.

When and till what time will the bars be closed?

In a recent gazette notification issued by the Delhi Excise Commissioner, 'dry day' has been declared under the Excise Rules-2010 for various excise licenses on the day of polling and counting in the 70-member Delhi Assembly. The notification issued by the Delhi government reads, 'It is ordered that dry day will be in force from 6 pm on February 3 to 6 pm on February 5 and then dry day will also be in force on the day of counting of votes for the assembly elections on February 8. During dry days, no liquor shop, hotel, restaurant, club and shops selling or serving liquor will be allowed to sell or serve liquor to anyone.'

These will also not be allowed to sell liquor
The notification further states that non-owned clubs, star hotels, restaurants and hotels run by anyone, even if they have been issued licenses of various categories for keeping and supplying liquor, will also not be allowed to serve liquor. It is worth noting that the Delhi Assembly elections in Delhi will be held in a single phase on February 5, the results will be declared on February 8. The Aam Aadmi Party has won the last two assembly elections by a huge margin. In 2015, the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party won 67 out of 70 seats in the assembly. In 2020, the party won 62 seats.
