Spanish veteran Carlos Alcaraz and top-ranked Yannick Sinner entered the next round by registering easy wins in their opening matches at the Shanghai Tennis Masters here on Saturday. Alcaraz won his fourth title of the year on Wednesday by defeating Italy's Sinner in the China Open final. Both players showed no signs of fatigue in their opening match. Alcaraz defeated 19-year-old Shang Juncheng of China 6-2, 6-2 in the first round and will now face another Chinese player Wu Yibing in the third round.

Sinner, who is battling a doping case, registered his 250th career win with an easy 6-1, 6-4 win over Japan's Taro Daniel. 23-year-old Sinner, who won the second major title of the year by winning the US Open last month, will now face Argentina's Tomas Martin Etcheverry. 65th-ranked Jakub Mencic of the Czech Republic scored an upset win over sixth-ranked Andrey Rublev 6-7 (7), 6-4, 6-3.
