From then till 2019, BSP has been able to win only once in the 9 elections held in the last three decades. In the 1996 elections, Sukhlal Kushwaha of BSP had won the election. His victory surprised political pundits. He defeated BJP candidate former Chief Minister Virendra Kumar Sakhalecha and Congress candidate former Chief Minister Kunwar Arjun Singh. Sukhlal had got more than 1 lakh 82 thousand votes at that time. In this election, BJP has given ticket to Ganesh Singh.
